. They had been
making

since
1989
with their
Maple
Leaf
Proof
coins
ranging
from
one
ounce
to
1/10
ounce
in
gold
,
silver
and
bullion
. With the

were
launched
. These
four
coins
contain
a
0.9995
platinum

. Their
face

are

though
as

sold
for
$1990

more
than their

. With
each
set
comes
a

with
black
velvet
and a
certificate
of

. The
obverse
bears
the
bust
of
Elizabeth
II
,
current
ruling
monarch
of
Great

.
Surrounding
her

are her
name
and
D.G
.
REGINA
. This
latter
phrase
is
for the
latin
DEI
GRATIA
REGINA
(Queen
by the
grace
of
God)
. This
portrait
was
designed
and
modeled
by
Dora
De
Pedery-Hunt
.
Once
a
design
is
approved
by the
Mint
, a
large
three-dimensional
model
is
made
.
Sometimes
this
is
the
same
person
as the
designer
but
often
it
is
an
artisan
of the
mint
. The
reverse
for
each
coin
was
designed
by
Glen
Loates
. His
initials
are in the
lower
right
of
each
coin
except
the
$30

.
Sheldon
Beveridge

the
$300
mold
,
Ago
Aarand
the
$150
,
Terry
Smith
the
$75
, and
William
Woodruff
the
$30
. The
models
are
made
three-dimensional
, from
plaster
,
usually
with an
eight
inch
diameter
. The
reverse
of the
$150
½
ounce
platinum
coin
has a
Snowy
Owl
with
outstretched
wings
and
extended
claws
to
catch
prey
by
moonlight
. The
$300
platinum
coin
is
30mm
in
diameter
with the
$150
,
25mm
;
$75
,
20mm
,
$30
,
4mm
. If
you
hold
the
coins
between
your
fingers
right
side
up
, they
rotate
along
their
vertical
axis
with the
opposite
side
also
right
side
up
. This
is
one
type
of
coin
arrangement
. The
other
major
type
is
the
opposite
side
when
rotated
